EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a type of psychotherapy designed to help people process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences. During EMDR sessions, a person focuses on a troubling memory while the therapist guides them through a series of controlled eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, such as tapping. This process helps the brain reprocess the memory, reducing its emotional intensity and allowing the person to develop healthier coping mechanisms. EMDR is commonly used to treat PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and sometimes depression, and research shows it can be highly effective. Unlike some traditional therapies, EMDR does not require talking through every detail of the trauma, making it a unique and evidence-based approach to mental health treatment.

During an EMDR session, you stay fully aware and in control the whole time. I work with you, guiding the process, and if you want, we can even do the session in a way that keeps the details of your memories private. You can still get all the benefits of the therapy without having to share anything you’re not ready to.

An important part of EMDR is helping you feel better about yourself and your emotions. Toward the end of a session, I usually spend some time helping you notice your strengths and find ways to cope with any challenges. I want to make sure you leave the session feeling positive and in control. The idea is to support long-term emotional growth, so you walk away feeling more confident, balanced, and resilient.
