Beth Collier
I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of East London and am continuing with my training towards an M.A in Counselling and Psychotherapy. The course is accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work within the BACP code of ethics.
I’m an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist, 'Integrative' means that I draw from a range of styles to suit your individual needs, (e.g. Person Centred,
Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Body Psychotherapy,
Relaxation & Mindfulness and Psycho-spiritual techniques). I adapt
to you rather than expect you to fit into any one model.
I help clients work through
emotional issues, providing an environment where you can feel free to express yourself without fear of being judged.
I believe a person has all the inner resources that they need to achieve
whatever they want in life. By becoming
self aware we can make more conscious choices and gain a greater sense of
control over our lives.
I have worked within the human rights field for 8 years focusing on children’s, refugee and women’s rights, primarily as a researcher, specialising in gender persecution in a global context.
I have worked with women experiencing trauma, researching individual asylum and human rights cases on behalf of women refugees covering issues such as trafficking, honour related crimes, female genital mutilation, rape and sexual violence, domestic violence, armed conflict, forced and early marriage, law, cultural practices and ideology.
I'm currently Director of CORI, an international research organisation providing information on human rights conditions in countries of origin to support lawyers, judges and decision makers within the Refugee Status Determination process.
I work with the Mental Health Providers Forum as a Consultant on government initiatives to Improve Access to Psychological Therapies and on research methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of psychological therapies within the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines.
I have a B.A. in Comparative Religion and Social Anthropology and an
M.A. in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights.
I am a member of the British Holistic Medical Association
